Foundational leadership
Forget the leadership manual that looks more at home for learning to build a space shuttle. I help people create and run quick experiments that simplify and focus on the key things that set them up for success as a leader.
Leading people through change
People engage in change when they know the role they can play and how they can have impact. Whether it’s groups of leaders or teams, I help people choose their role in impacting change and then turn up the heat to make it happen.
Speaking
Company or team away days and conferences are a great opportunity to get people inspired and energised. Give me an hour with your people and they’ll be fizzing with possibilities about growth and change.
Ideas Factory
The positive opposite of what frays you at the edges might be your key to what matters most
Imagine your team heads out for lunch without you. About ten minutes in, the conversation turns to what it's like to be in the team and to be led by you. What two or three words would you love to hear them use?
In my 20+ years of working with leaders and their teams, there's one thing that reliably gets a reaction like no other.
Instead of "I need to nail this feedback conversation," try forming a hypothesis. Something like: I think I'm getting defensive reactions because I do all the talking. What if I started with questions instead?
Here's my version of the challenge: provoke a response. Go and try something. If you get blocked, now you know where the limit is, and exactly what parameters you’re working with.
I’m always interested in how a group of people might make a shift too. That’s where the focus on what matters really stands out. I’m noticing that teams and businesses who are making it real, making it simple and getting things done tend to go big on three things
Aaaaaand… 2025 is in full swing! As we bump into February, my work with teams usually involves some conversations about what an awesome year looks like, and how they’ll make it happen. Sometimes you’ll feel fully in control of that, other times fate rolls some dice for us and we get to deal with the consequences. If you’re like me and live in the ever-changing weather landscape that is Wellington, you might have even heard the “survive til ‘25” maxim many times leading up to the end of last year.
I caught up with my mate Edward the other day. I always come away from conversations with him feeling grounded, still, calm.
