Kia ora,
I’m Jeremy Leslie. I’ve spent over 25 years helping people become the leaders they most want to be. I’ve worked in and with a range of organisations and environments, leading teams and businesses from start up companies to multinationals, in New Zealand and abroad, public and private sector. My focus is always on helping leaders be great at what they do, so that the people in their teams can be the best versions of themselves.
Five things I know to be true:
We overcomplicate leadership.
Leading people through change is now a foundational skill requirement for any leader – especially so if your organisation is in a growth phase.
Leadership is a confidence game, and we undermine that confidence by telling new leaders there’s a ‘right way’ they should be. There is no magic formula. With leadership, the learning is in the game.
We all worry that getting leadership wrong will make us look incompetent, damage our reputation and, ultimately, prove that we don’t belong.
Small experiments and reflective practice eat intensive leadership programmes for breakfast
What makes the difference
Simple and challenging: whanaungatanga. Leaders who focus on building whanaungatanga create environments where people thrive. They love being part of something bigger than them and get a deep sense of satisfaction from the work they do and the group they belong to.
What I do
I take ‘What I know’ and ‘What makes the difference’, and turn those into an experience for your people that gets them laser focused on the impact they want to make. Then I turn up the heat to get them doing what they’ve said they’ll do.
Are you developing emerging or early in career leaders? My Potent Leaders Coaching Series gives them what they need to go from emerging as leaders to nailing what they do. Potent Leaders is not a workshop-centred programme. Instead, I focus on where learning really happens – in the moment during real experiences with actual consequences – so that your leaders bring the Potent Leader model into their practice and actually make the good stuff happen. Within 6 months you’ll have leaders who create and nurture belonging in their teams, challenge their people to level up in what they deliver, and raise accountability for achieving outcomes faster and better than before.
Is your team or organisation on a journey of change? My Leading Through Change programme challenges groups of leaders or leaders and their teams to identify their current impact in creating change, create connection and belonging during change, and level up their impact. This 60 day programme for leader groups or self-paced series for teams challenges participants to move from being observers on the sidelines to becoming drivers and cultivators of the change they want to create.
When I’m not riffing leadership and change…
I’m Wellington born and bred and I love this place, where I live with my wife and son. I’ve got a keen spirit and optimistic fitness level for running the bush and hills around our city, am a strong patron of all things food and beverage, and somehow find myself coaching young adults to become better cricketers (my extensive resume for this extends to achieving the dizzying heights of the Rongotai College 3rd XI when the only thing that mattered in life was cricket). My soul food is family, getting outside and exploring new environments.
