POTENT LEADERS
COACHING SERIES
Accountability: potent leaders inspire through feedback
If there’s one thing I hear that’s always challenging, from leaders at all levels, it’s feedback. The biggest barrier I see is leaders trying to take total responsibility for the feedback conversation going well, and that feedback is a one-way street.
In this experiment, you set up a safe and productive feedback environment by turning feedback into a two-way conversation. It’s not about you unloading your opinion on your team members; instead it’s about the two of you having an open conversation where you explore the other person’s perspective, learn more about how they are experiencing the situation you have feedback about, then providing them with your observations about how they are going. At the end of the conversation, the ball is in their court about what they’ll do with the feedback.
If you want to get even more out of this experiment, and build your feedback fitness level, use this approach to seek feedback from other people about how you are going - at least once a month, and from a diverse range of people.
